Vive y trabaja en Londres.

Perry tiene un Art and Design Foundation Diploma del Braintree College of Further Education, y estudió en Portsmouth Polytechnic. Ganó el Turner Prize en 2003, y ha sido premiado por la Royal Academy of Arts, el Trustee of the British Museum y es Chancellor de la University of the Arts London.

Perry aborda temas universalmente humanos como identidad, género, estatus social, sexualidad y religión a través de medios tradicionales como la cerámica, el hierro fundido, bronce, grabado y tapicería. A través de su alter ego travesti “Claire”, comenta sobre la sociedad y los dramas comunes de la vida británica contemporánea.

Ha tenido múltiples exposiciones individuales, como en Serpentine Galleries, Londres; Museum of Contemporary Art, Sidney; The British Museum; the National Portrait Gallery, Londres; 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa; Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh; Stedelijk Museum, Ámsterdam; y Garth Clark Gallery, Nueva York.

Perry ha tenido exposiciones colectivas en Europa, Japón y los EEUU. Sus obras pertenecen a colecciones como la del Museum of Modern Art, Nueva York; The Arts Council and the British Council Collections; Tate Collection; The Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, Shiga, Japón; y Luxembourg Museum of Art, entre otras.
