Dale Lewis Essex, United Kingdom, b. 1980
Lives and works in London.
Lewis studied a Ma Fine Art at University of Brighton; a Ba Fine Art at London Guildhall University, and a Ba Fashion and Textiles at Liverpool John Moores University. He also participated in Turps Banana Painting Programme, and he has been recognized by the Jerwood Painting Fellowship.
Lewis paints from observation, from situations he has witnessed or imagined, and sometimes those he has been directly involved in. His large-scale works comment on society; an apparent clash of the profane and the exalted produces an ambivalence that permeates the work. For some the scenes are hilarious, for others horrific.
Among his solo and group exhibitions are the ones held at Lager Gallery, Seoul/Korea; Anna Zorina Gallery, New York; Christian Larsen Gallery, Stockholm; Saatchi Gallery; Art Space, Illinois; NADA New York; and in several galleries and projects in London such as Edel Assanti Gallery, Turps Gallery, The Invisible Line Gallery, The Rag Factory, Lomography Gallery, among others.
Lewis’ work is in public and private collections such as Saatchi and DRAF (David Roberts Art Foundation).
