Biography

Matthew Chambers was born in Boise, Idaho, in 1982. He lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.

He studied at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles and at the University of Miami.

 

Matthew Chambers draws on both figuration and abstraction in his painting, which is consistently bold and colorful. His inspiration comes both from his own imagination and from art history and popular culture.

 

Chambers has held solo exhibitions at Feuer/Mesler, New York; Hezi Cohen Gallery, Tel Aviv; Praz Delavallade, Paris; UNTITLED, New York; Steve Turner Contemporary, Los Angeles; Blanket Contemporary Art, Vancouver; Angstrom, Los Angeles; Rental Gallery, New York; and Objex, Miami. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions at galleries such as Marlborough, Madrid; Brand New Gallery, Milan; Luce Gallery, Turin; Pepin Moore, Los Angeles; MOCA at the Pacific Design Center, Los Angeles; and Library Nieves, Tokyo, among others.

 

Some of his works are included in public and private collections such as the Hort Family Foundation, New York; the Zabludowicz Collection, London; the Berezdivin Collection, Santurce, Puerto Rico; Il Giardino dei Lauri, Città delle Pieve, Italy; the Rubell Family Collection, Miami; and the Saatchi Collection, London.
