Biography

 Born in Montréal, Canada, 1977.

Lives and works in New York.

She received a MFA degree from the School of Visual Arts, New York and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Montréal's Concordia University. She attended courses at the École des Beaux-Arts, Paris and studied Philosophy and Art History at Marianopolis College,Montréal. She has received recognitions such as the Susan Levin-Woods Award and the Millenium Scholarship. 

Faraj’s watercolor paintings use a wet-on-wet technique and a bold color palette. She paints sexualized figures with varying degrees of abstraction and expressionistic style. Her deeply psychological and emotional characters are drawn from the worlds of pornography and erotica, trying to recover a sense of their humanity.

 Her individual shows have been held at Anna Zorina Gallery, New York; Articule Gallery, Montréal; Helen Day Art Center, Vermont; Nuit Blanche, Toronto; Joyce Yahouda Gallery, Montréal, and the Dubai International Art Symposium. Her work has also been featured in group exhibits in New York at Anna Zorina Gallery and the Open Gallery, among others.

Faraj’s paintings are part of private collections in Montréal, New York, Dubai, and Lyon.
