David Shrigley England, b. 1968
Lives and work in England.
Shrigley studied at Glasgow School of Art. He was the winner of the 2016 Commission for the Fourth Plinthfor, London, and was nominee for the Turner Prize in 2013.
Shrigley is a revered and wildly popular British artist who is best known for his crudely composed and mordantly humorous cartoons. His solo exhibitions include the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich; Hayward Gallery, London; Yerba Beuna Centre for the Arts, San Francisco; Galerie Yvon Lambert, Paris; BQ Galerie, Cologne; Anton Kern Gallery, New York; Stephen Friedman, London; Galerie Nicolai Wallner, Copenhagen; Camden Arts Centre, London; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Copenhagen Bloom Gallery, Amsterdam; and Catalyst Arts, Belfast.
He has had many group exhibits, for example, at Museum of Modern Art, New York; Musee d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris; Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne; and Stedelijk Museum Bureau, Amsterdam, among others.
