Shadi Al Atallah Arabia Saudita, b. 1994
She is currently living and working in London, United Kingdom.
Shadi Al-Atallah studied at the Camberwell College of Arts. She is currently studying a master’s degree in painting at the Royal College of Art in London. Al-Atallah is a multidisciplinary artist, working mainly with drawing and painting.
The Saudi artist is best known for her large scale paintings of dark and dynamic figures. These cathartic self-portraits reference both Al-Atallah’s childhood in Saudi Arabia and the intersections of her mixed-race queer identity. The artist examines healing as a concept and examines the relationships between mental health, the body and spiritual practices.
Al-Atallah’s solo exhibitions include Hammond Projects and Cob Gallery, both in London. She has been part of group exhibitions in galleries such as Swim Gallery, San Francisco; The Gallery at Foyles, London; Spit and Sawdust, London; Royal College of Arts, London; Copeland’s Gallery, London; and Camberwell College of Arts, London.
