Biography

Víctor Rodríguez, born in Mexico City in 1970, lives and works in Brooklyn.

 

Rodríguez, a self-taught artist, uses photography as a reference for the pictorial creation of large-format female portraits that display an intimate mystery. His technique includes the use of an airbrush, regular and colored pencils, brushes, knives, crayons, and sandpaper.

 

Rodríguez has had solo exhibitions at the Lyle O’Reitzel gallery in Santo Domingo; Torrigiani, Milan; Heumer Hall, Berlin; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey, Nuevo León; Central Art Projects, Mexico City; Ramis Barquet, New York; Fernando Pradilla, Madrid; Klaus Steinmetz Arte Contemporáneo, Escazú; Mateo Sariel, Panama; and at Space d'Art Yvonamor Palix, Paris.

 

His group exhibitions include the XI Rufino Tamayo Painting Biennial, Tamayo Museum, Mexico City; Midome Art Center, Kyoto; Nassau County Museum, Long Island; and the VII Osaka Triennale, Mydone Osaka Museum. Rodríguez has received various awards, such as first prize at the Tamayo Biennial, Tamayo Museum, Mexico City; the Young Creators Scholarship, FONCA; and the Acquisition Prize at the XVI National Meeting of Young Art, Mexico City, among others.
