Feng Zhengjie Anyue, China, b. 1968
Lives and works in Beijing, China.
Feng Zhengjie graduated from the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in Chongqing, China. Zhengjie is renowned for his striking portraits of women, in a style close to that of pop culture. In his work, the artist criticizes the rampant consumerism of today China and fashion, beauty canons and the concept of glamour. The characteristic eyes of his portraits are lost and wandering, reflecting the disconnection of the individual’s inner world with the artificial outside world. The posters of rural China of the 1930s and the traditional drawing style called Mianzhu Nianhu are great influences in Zhengjie work.
His portraits can be found in the Guangdong Museum of Art, Guangdong, Busan Museum of Modern Art, Busan, and in the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul, among others. The Chinese artist has exhibited individually at Tilton Gallery, New York; Xin Dong Cheng Space for Contemporary Art, Beijing; Goethe Art Center, Taichung; Galerie Bellecour, Lyon; Soobin Art Gallery, Singapore; M. K. Čiurlionis National Art Museum, Kaunas, among others.
