Hugo Lugo Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, b. 1974
He studied Visual Arts in Universidad de Montemorelos in Nuevo León. He has received the Beca Jóvenes Creadores, FONCA; First Prize at the XIV Bienal de Pintura del Museo Rufino Tamayo; and First Prize at the XX Encuentro Nacional de Arte Joven, Aguascalientes.
Lugo works in formats such as painting, drawing, photography and installation. His work reflects on the idea of the represented subject, and on the representation itself. His characters are, in general, small people who face resized everyday objects.
He has exhibited in places such as Caracas, Amsterdam, Paris, Mexico City, Bogota, Hong Kong, Rio de Janeiro, and Singapore. Lugo’s solo exhibits include Galería Yusto-Giner, Marbella, Spain; Museo de Arte de Sinaloa, Culiacán, Mexico; Patricia Ready Gallery, Santiago de Chile, Chile; Centro de las Artes, Monterrey; and Centro Cultural Tijuana.
His work is part of public collections such as Pérez Art Museum, Miami; Centro de arte contemporáneo de Málaga, Spain; Colección FEMSA, Monterrey; Museum of Fine Arts Boston; Museo de arte de Sonora, Mexico; Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo, UNAM; and The Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA), Los Angeles, among others.
