Biography

Lives and works in London.

Perry studied Art and Design Foundation Diploma at Braintree College of Further Education, and at Portsmouth Polytechnic. Winner of the 2003 Turner Prize, he has been awarded by the Royal Academy of Arts, the Trustee of the British Museum and he is Chancellor of the University of the Arts London.

Perry tackles universal human subjects: identity, gender, social status, sexuality, and religion through traditional media such as ceramics, cast iron, bronze, printmaking and tapestry. Through his transvestite alter ego “Claire”, he comments about society and the commonplace dramas of modern British life.

He has had several solo exhibitions, including Serpentine Galleries, London; Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney; The British Museum; the National Portrait Gallery, London; 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa; Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; and Garth Clark Gallery, New York.

Perry has also had group shows in Europe, Japan and the USA. His works belong to collections such as The Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Arts Council and the British Council Collections; Tate Collection; The Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, Shiga, Japan; and Luxembourg
Museum of Art, among others.
