Tomoaki Suzuki, SHCP (2016): Museo de Arte de la Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público

Fundación Amparo y Manuel (AMMA) was pleased to present, for the very first time in Mexico City, the sculptural work of Japanese artist Tomoaki Suzuki (Japan, 1972; based in London), in collaboration with Museo de Arte and Galería de la Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público.

 On that occasion, Fundación AMMA had the honor to show the work of Suzuki, and to collaborate with French curator Alexis Vaillant as guest-curator of the exhibition. While focusing on Suzuki’s work, this exhibition ambitioned to establish a dialogue between the neoclasic architecture of the Gallery from early XIX-century attributed to Manuel Tolsá, and the novohispanic construction of the SHCP Art Museum (Antiguo Palacio del Arzobispado) built in XVIII-century, by presenting a selection of his stunning wooden sculptures, reliefs, and outdoor sculptures together, both inside the Gallery, and outside in the Segundo patio of the Art Museum. The exhibition highlighted the capacity of an artist to invert proportions, including those of the public.
