DEMAC is a non-profit civil association created in 1989 by Dr. Amparo Espinosa Rugarcía in order to encourage the integral development of Mexican women, whom are invited, especially those under precarious conditions, to tell their stories with courage and honesty and let them be heard by other people.
DEMAC retrieves and records feminine experiences and testimonies which allow women to look at themselves using their own criteria and values, not those of others that are foreign to them. Women from different regions and social spheres participate in “DEMAC Awards for Women Who Dare to Tell Their Story”. These women’s thoughts are then given a voice, through the publication of their narratives, encouraging the social reflection upon gender reality in Mexico.
